The Makalu Base Camp trek crosses the remote and biodiverse Makalu Barun National Park, climbing from lush lowland forest over high ridges into the dramatic glacial amphitheatre at the foot of 8,485m Makalu. It is a demanding, rarely-trekked route with no road access near the mountains, offering solitude, rich wildlife and close views of Makalu, Everest and Lhotse.
