Annapurna
The Annapurna Circuit is among the most celebrated long-distance treks on earth. It loops around the Annapurna massif, climbing from subtropical valleys and terraced farmland through alpine highlands to the dramatic 5,416m Thorong La pass, then descending into the arid, Tibetan-influenced Mustang region and the sacred temple of Muktinath. Along the way the culture shifts from Hindu Gurung and Magar villages to Buddhist Manangi and Thakali communities. Road construction has shortened the classic route, but well-chosen side trails and the high crossing keep it spectacular.
